Art Of War: Legions - What are the Best Troops to Upgrade for Max Combat & Durability Rating? (Ranking included)
A) Preface
While you're upgrading the troops in the mobile strategy game Art of War: Legions (AoW), you may notice there are extra gains on the Troop Count from some troops. The troop count acts as ability multiplier on properties like Health, Attach, ...etc. On the other hand, there are other types of troops having very high Attack or Health per unit, but they don't raise count while upgrading. So, based on the different behavior on upgrading, troops in AoW are analyzed here in multiple aspects like Battle Rating per Unit or with Count, or Durability Rating per Unit or with Count in this article. Each of them will be detailed in its paragraph below:
B) The Growth of Troop Count Along with Upgrading
As shown in the following figure, we divided the troops into two groups - one of them has a count gain with upgrading, while the other group doesn't benefit from upgrading. The Group One has 11 troops, and their unit reach the maximum value 9 at level 4.

C) The Performance of Troops with Count
While you are deploying troops on the battlefield, keep in mind that the troop count is an ability multiplier. Even a troop with average performance could benefit from the raise of count while upgrading, thus its overall performance is better than superior troops having only one unit, like Demon. So in this report, we recommend the troops according to their overall performance calculated with troop count.
Here we define two indexes to measure the performance on Durability and Battle Ratting.
Durability Rating: Health * (90+Defense)/90 * TroopCount
Battle Rating: Attack * AttackSpeed * TroopCount
At level 7, top troops with high Durability Rating: Paladin >> Iron Guards > Inquisitor > Pilgrims > Infantry & Hell Jailers > Undead Soldier > Bandits > Archers > Ghost Assassins >> Harbinger Of Fire
Table 3: Level 7 Durability Statistics with Troop Count
At level 7, top troops with high Battle Rating: Ghost Assassins > Bandits > Undead Soldier > Hell Jailers > Infantry > Paladin > Iron Guards > Pilgrims & Inquisitor > Archers > Harbinger Of Fire
Table 4: Level 7 Battle Statistics with Troop Count
Avoid those troops with low Battle Rating: Priest Mage, Necromancer, Ice Mage, Fire Mage, Catapult, Bomber, Scholar

D) The performance of Troops per Unit
Some troops are very performant in one unit on the battlefield like Demon, Ogre Warrior. So, we also provide analytics from unit-based measurement. Here shows how we measure Durability and Battle Rating per Unit:
Durability Rating per Unit: Health * (90+Defense)/90
Battle Rating per Unit: Attack * AttackSpeed
At level 7, top troops with high Durability Rating per Unit: Demon & Witchcraft Totem & Meteor Golem > Viking Warrior & Beast Master > Templar Knight

At level 7, top troops with high Battle Rating per Unit: Demon > Ghost Assassins > Bandits > Soul Hunter & Templar Knight > Undead Soldier > Yasha > Viking Warrior > Beast Master

E) Average Performance of Troops
The Average Performance of Troops is measured by the average value of Battle Rating and Durability Rating with their maximum scaled to 1 respectively.
At Level 7, top troops are: Paladin >> Bandits > Ghost Assassins > Undead Soldier >> Iron Guards > Hell Jailer > Infantry ~= Pilgrims > Inquisitor
Average Rating: (Battle Rating/Max Battle Rating Amongst Troops + Durability Rating/Max Durability Rating Amongst Troops)/2

F) Conclusion
If you want to maximize Battle Rating, Ghost Assassin is the best choice for you. If you want to have a battle durability balance or increase survival, Paladin is your good friend. If you need a rock star on your battlefield, Demon is that villain.
